Mereka bilang kaum ku adalah pedagang, mereka bilang kaumku perantau.

Aku adalah Anak Sumatera, kata mereka.

Saya lahir dan besar di Jakarta, saya bukanlah perantau, saya bukanlah pedagang. Apakah benar saya adalah Anak Sumatera sejati?

Mungkin profesiku berbeda, tetapi aku terbuka, pandai bersosialiasi, memberikan solusi kepada yang membutuhkan, memberikan kepercayaan bagi yang memerlukan, menaruh kebahagian kepada yang menginginkan.

Mungkin, mungkin itulah karakter Pedagang yang ada didiriku.

Mungkin aku tidak hidup ditanah orang, aku hidup dimana aku dilahirkan, tetapi aku selalu ingin mencoba sesuatu yang baru, mengejar impianku, menjelajah segala kemungkinan dan tantangan, berusaha menemukan kembali diriku, meraih tantangan yang sulit dihadapi.

Mungkin, mungkin itulah karakter Perantau yang ada didiriku.

Tetapi? apakah hanya Anak Sumatera yang memiliki karakter seperti itu? bukankah kamu juga?

Bukankah kita dapat berkarakter baik selayaknya pedangan yang terpercaya? Bukankah kita juga dapat menjadikan hidup kita lebih baik setiap hari?

Pada akhirnya, ketika aku menjadi Anak Sumatera, aku juga menemukan dirimu.

Karya ini terinspirasi dari kapal layar, sebuah konsep utama yang muncul disetiap karya Raul Renanda, tidak hanya dibidang seni, namun juga konsep dasar arsitekturnya.

Gaya seni konstrutivis sangat terasa baik dalam penggunaan material maupun wujud bentukannya. Bukanlah hal luar biasa mengingat karya ini merupakan sinkronisasi dengan karya desain arsitekturalnya.

Benda seni dapat dilihat dari segala arah, dan memberikan rasa yang berbeda setiap kali kita mencoba merasakan efek visual dari sudut pandang yang berbeda.

Raul percaya akan keindahan dari segala ketidak teraturan. Berbeda dengan karya desainnya, karya seninya bergerak lebih bebas, tidak presisi, emosional, spontan dan tidak memerlukan pekerjaan halus. Ia percaya bahwa semakin mudah proses berekspresi, maka semakin jelas tujuan rasa yang ingin disampaikan.

Kapal layar adalah simbolisasi perjalanan, baik secara histrorikal, bahwa kita semua, Bangsa Indonesia adalah pendatang dipulau yang kaya ini, maupun perjalanan diri kita sendiri hingga titik ini, maupun perjalan hidup dan bangsa kita ke masa depan. Kita hanyalah satu titik air hujan diatara semua hujan yang curah dibumi ini.

Gunung

Saya tidak pernah tinggal dipegunungan, namun saya mengagumi gunung sebagai karya semesta yang megah, kokoh dan berkuasa.

Saya penjelajah, hinggap di gunung demi gunung. Mencari inspirasi dari setiap gunung yang saya temui.

Gunung dapat berarti Manusia berkarakter Gunung

Gunung dapat berarti Impian setinggi Gunung

Gunung dapat berarti Tantangan yang harus dihadapi sekeras Gunung.

Disitulah saya belajar, bahwa Gunung tidak dapat pernah ditaklukkan, Gunung hanya dapat menerima diri kita.

Diri kita yang menghormati Gunung itu.

Diri kita yang belajar dari Gunung itu.

Diri kita yang menikmati kehidupan disekitar Gunung itu.

Diri kita yang mencintai Gunung itu.

Gunung, hormatilah atau kitalah yang akan ditaklukkannya.

They say my people are merchants; they say my people are the nomads.

I am the Sumatran boy, they say.

I was born and raised in Jakarta; I am not an immigrant, I am not a merchant. Am I a pure Sumatra's Child?

Maybe I am not a trader, but I am open, I am good at socializing, giving solutions to the needy, giving trust to the people around me, putting happiness to the desires.

Maybe, that's the real merchant's character.

Maybe I'm not living in other's people land, I live where I was born, but I always, wanted to try something new, pursue my dreams, explore all the possibilities and challenges, try to rediscover myself, achieve difficult challenges.

Maybe, maybe that is the character of the nomads that existed for me.

But? is it just that the Sumatra's Child has such a distinctive character? Aren't we all might have the same character no matter where we were coming from?

Would we be able to have the trust as any merchant? Would we also be able to make our lives better every day? A life explorer?

In the end, in my search to be a Sumatran child, I found who you are too.

This work inspired by a sailing boat, a significant concept that appears in all of Raul Renanda's work, not only in art but also in the basic concept of his work in architecture.

The constructivist art style feels right in both material use and form. It is no wonder that this work is a parallel with his architectural design work.

Art objects can be viewed in all directions, and give a different feel every time we try to experience the visual effects from different perspectives.

Raul believes in the beauty of all irregularities. Unlike its design work, her artwork moves more freely, less precisely, emotionally, spontaneously and does not require fine work. He believes that the more natural the process of expression is, the more clearly the purpose of the taste is to be conveyed.

A sailboat is a symbol of exploration, be it historically, that all Indonesian was an immigrant who tried to live in the beautiful islands, as well as our journey in life up to this moment, as well as our journey of the next life and our nation into the future.

I have never lived in the mountains, but I admire the mountain as a magnificent and powerful work of the universe.

I am an explorer, hoping on a mountain after mountain. Looking for inspiration from every mountain I meet.

Mountain could mean one's character strong like any mountain.

Mountain could mean dream as high as any mountain

Mountain could mean challenges that must be faced as hard as any mountain.

That's where I learned, that the Mountain can never be conquered, the Mountain can only accept ourselves.

Our self that respects the Mountain.

Ourselves who learn from the Mountain.

Our self who enjoy life around the Mountain.

and Our self-loves the Mountain.

Mountain, honor it or we will be conquered.
